Phony Covid Immigration Ban Set to Expire

President Trump imposed a ban on certain employment-based immigration blaming the pandemic for that anti-immigrant maneuver. His “reasoning” was that because of the economic difficulties created by the covid lockdowns Americans would need the additional employment opportunities that were being taken by immigrants. But numerous studies have shown that immigrants benefit the economy. The business community openly criticized the orders as blocking critically needed workers willing to take jobs that Americans are not willing to do or capable of doing.
President Biden will let the ban on certain temporary foreign work visas expire next week according to two administration officials.
The visas that were blocked were for a variety of jobs, including those for computer programmers and engineers who enter the United States on H-1B visas, students on J-1 work-study programs and seasonal workers in the hospitality industry.
Mr. Biden already put a stop to Mr. Trump’s ban on new green cards, saying it did not “advance the interests of the United States.” During the pandemic, Mr. Biden said the restrictions harmed the nation by “preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here. It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world.”
