Case Study: Cancellation of Removal for Non-Permanent Residents
Ms. “Ramirez” is a citizen of Honduras and was undocumented. She has lived in the United States for nearly twenty (20) years and has four United States citizen children, one of who suffers from severe autism. Ms. “Ramirez” was arrested for driving without a license and turned over to Immigration Customs and Enforcement for deportation. Ms. “Ramirez” applied for something called Cancellation of Removal. Because Ms. “Ramirez” has lived in the United States for more than ten (10) years, has no significant criminal record and her United States citizen daughter would suffer “exceptional and extremely unusual hardship” in Honduras, Ms. “Ramirez” is permitted to remain in the United States with a green card.
